(Edited) Inappropriate Language (Abbreviation) & Harassment

Post by Nebo » Thu Aug 15, 2019 1:57 pm

Hi :)

I'm here to report players Bommie and bias123. Bommie used inappropriate language and when warned they seemed to not care and decided to try to tease me with a "wanna be mod" comment. I told them there wouldn't be a need to report them if they won't repeat the offense in the future. So far they haven't, that's good.

bias123 jumped into it and said something unpleasant about me despite all I did was answering their question. It took them 2 warnings until they apologized because they don't wanna get banned (not a sincere apology if you ask me but doesn't matter so long they don't repeat it).

Both players haven't repeated their respective offenses, that's good. However, if they do I will report them again immediately without giving them another warning. Both players can consider this an additional warning.

I've made this report to bring those incidents to the information of the staff as well as to serve as an additional warning, more official one, to the players involved.

Edit: The player read my report and a short while later this was going on:

I hope my request will be respected by the player.

Thank you for your time :)

You were right to give out the initial warnings. But I can understand why bias123 became annoyed about this report after the matter was handled. In future situations like this, it may be better to message staff privately with information about matters already handled, rather than exacerbating the situation like this.

I, too, can understand why they became annoyed about this report and I don't blame them for that. However, to commit an offense and getting reported for it, with the staff becoming aware of the offense the player committed and with the report serving as another warning to the player is what the player may get as a result of their actions. Even if they apologize afterwards (sincerely or not). If a player doesn't want to experience the unpleasant feeling of getting reported or to become annoyed by it, they should simply not break the rules and/or repeat their offense even after being warned and asked to stop. Not to mention I could have reported them after they repeated it despite the first warning I gave them, but I chose to give them another warning. On this note I would like to say that most players I warn actually accept the warning instantly, I reply with a "Np"/"It's Okay"/"Thank you" and it ends there, without a report or even telling the staff about it.

Another point to consider is that a report, even of a matter already handled, which makes the player realize that the staff is now aware of their actions, usually works as a better and more effective means of deterrence to prevent the player from repeating their offense again in the future, despite the exacerbating it may involve.
In the specific case reported here, I don't regret the exacerbation that was caused because honestly I have no interest in communicating with the player at all after what happened.

The only thing that bothers me in situations like this, is that a report may cause the reported player to feel as if they're being "shamed" by it in front of the community, though it's totally not the purpose of a report but it still comes with it due to the reporting system in the game. Still, to avoid that the player shouldn't break the rules in the first place. But considering this, I will follow your advice, Nex, in future situations like this, case-by-case.

Thank you Nex! :)
