Why shadow tag works for someone and not for someone else

Post by figig » Sun Aug 12, 2018 4:16 am

Today when i was playing in tourney, my opponent had a gengar and i had cloyster but before i could switch it he attacked and killed it. How ?

I thought that i can switch anything before any attacks, right ? (more precisely that was the opening round of the match) or Pl works in a different way ?

I dont know, but i m mad about this, suppose players have A and B pokemons, before attacking both players have the chance to switch, why cant i get the oppertunity to switch it ? Or is it only for some special players ?

But when i used Mega Gengar with shadow tag ability, i was surprised to see him switch out his gliscor for blissey..

Please immediately fix the issue of it, a lot of unfair play happens in Pl battles and in tourneys.. The only minus point is i didnt take any proof, if any one from the mods can come and play with me and other random players with the issues raised to try to see if they are facing the same problem, the issues can be noticed in high scale and can be tried to fix.

Please i request you, please take some steps to solve this issue.

Regards

Yeah, Mega Gengar hit the meta hard a while back so they disabled his ability from working. After re-implemented it to work for Wobuffet and Gothitelle, Im not sure It Consistently works with Gengar anymore....
I'm just a normal dude, with an interesting life, who doesn't talk.... about what happens in his life.

Hi :)

You can't switch out your poke before any attack if your opponent has a poke with Shadow Tag ability in the field, that's exactly the effect of Shadow Tag ability - prevents the opposing poke from switching out. Btw, in case of Gengar and Mega Gengar, it also applies to the turn when Gengar turns into Mega Gengar, meaning you can't switch out in that turn as well.
I don't know what happened in the exact case you described, of you using Mega Gengar against Gliscor and then Blissey, it might be a bug but from what i've seen so far Shadow Tag ability functions properly. Another explanation could be that your opponent switched out Gliscor and switched in Blissey on the same turn you switched out your poke and switched in Gengar/Mega Gengar. It could also be that you actually defeated his Gliscor (and wasn't aware of it because of the not very smooth flow of battles in the game) and then he switched in Blissey. Another option is that your opponent switched in Blissey even in the turn before the turn you switched in Gengar/Mega Gengar, but due to a bugged image, it still showed Gliscor image instead of Blissey's. To conclude, I personally believe Shadow Tag ability works correctly, but it would be nice if you could record a short video of a battle in case you again experience such thing which you suspect to be a bug, such video could strongly support your claim.

Good luck in tourneys :)
